Indian cities are notorious for attacks on women passengers. In the recent past, there were allegations of rape, extortion and threats against drivers contracted to various on-demand taxi services, including Ola and Uber.

A driver was removed from TaxiForSure’s network after a female passenger found him masturbating while on the move.

This is why these taxi-hailing giants started testing out women-only services.

Now, a Gurgaon startup, Bikxie, has launched on-demand women-only two-wheeler taxi service in the city.

Called Bikxie Pink, the app is available on Android as of now. Commuters can also hail the two-wheeler taxis from metro stations, malls, popular markets, housing complexes and universities.

The service will be initially rolled out with five female drivers. The women will be given training and will be screened via the police verification process.

Bikxie Pink offers a fleet of Scooties driven by women drivers. Bikxie positions itself as the only two-wheeler taxi service dedicated completely to the safety aspect with a special focus on security. Every ride on Bikxie Pink is tracked.

The app comes equipped with the option of feeding in an emergency contact and also has an SOS button. Once the SOS button is pressed, the emergency contact number immediately gets the current location of the bike, its registration number and the driver’s contact number.

Co-founder & CEO Mohit Sharma said: “At Bikxie, we are driven by a single-minded focus on making last-mile connectivity absolutely seamless and safe for everyone. Bikxie Pink has been launched as a move in the same direction.

“We understand that our women passengers may not always be comfortable riding pillion to a male driver. They now have the choice to opt for a vehicle with a woman driver and get to their destination safely and comfortably.”

The service was inaugurated by Indian academic, writer and women’s rights activist Professor Madhu Purnima Kishwar.

“Women, today, are highly aspirational and independent. However, due to issues relating to safety in public places and paucity of safe mode of travel, they are often thwarted in achieving their full potential. Bikxie has done us all a great favour by launching a swift, safe and completely stress-free solution to the last mile connectivity problem for women. With Bikxie Pink, women can enjoy an efficient & affordable two-wheeler taxi service without worrying about their personal safety,” Kishwar said.
