#Africa Applications open for Unreasonable East Africa 2016

//

Applications have opened for the third edition of Unreasonable East Africa, an accelerator programme that looks to assist ventures in the region building solutions to social and environmental problems.

The second Unreasonable East Africa programme took place earlier this year, after the incubator picked 12 early-stage startups from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Sudan to take part in its programme.

Unreasonable East Africa looks to provide startups with an “unreasonable advantage” by introducing them to a large network of mentors, investors and partners. There were over 180 applications for the 2015 programme, while in 2014 the 12 entrepreneurs involved went on to raise over US$2.6 million in funding.

“Are you an entrepreneur building a company in East Africa that helps people access quality and affordable healthcare, education, clean energy or any basic human needs? Or maybe you are solving unemployment, reducing deforestation, or increasing smallholder farmers’ incomes? Are you in some way solving one (or more!) of the biggest, toughest social or environmental challenges we face in our region? We think you are unreasonable and we are looking for you,” Unreasonable East Africa said.

“We know just how much fun and rewarding this journey must be but also how tough and challenging it is. We exist to help companies like yours grow and eventually scale to meet the needs of over one million people each.”

Applications for the five-week programme are now open, but Unreasonable East Africa will in 2016 also be running its first Lab, a one week programme for earlier stage companies trying to test their business idea, for which startups are also invited to apply.
