#Africa Digital health startup wins Seedstars Lagos event

Digital health startup Kangpe was named winner of the Nigerian leg of global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World on Friday, with the startup now heading to the global final to compete for up to US$1 million in equity investment.

Seedstars World has already picked winning startups in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, and Angola, and hosted its Nigerian round at Seedspace with the support of Omidyar Network.

Eight selected startups presented their ideas in front of a panel, with Kangpe emerging victorious. The startup allows Africans to discuss health issues with verified doctors via SMS, mobile app or web within minutes.

Kangpe will now participate at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland next March, where it will take part in a week-long training programme with other winners from around the world, connecting with investors and mentors.

The final day of the summit will be dedicated to pitching in front of the 1,000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to the US$1 million equity investment.

First runner-up was Tuteria, an online platform that connects users with tutors in various fields, while second runner-up was Davtonlearn, a cloud-based video learning startup. The other startups that pitched were Legal Forms, Quick Gas, Piggybank.ng, Grit Systems and Social Lender.
