Egyptian startup Instabug, which allows users to offer feedback from within apps to report bugs and issues, has announced a US$1.7 million seed round led by Accel Partners to allow it to expand its suite of tools to provide a comprehensive support kit for mobile apps.

Launched in 2012, Instabug is already running on almost 300 million devices, with 20 million bugs have reported, and earlier this year came out of beta by rolling out its updated version, which allows for in-app conversations, powerful crash reporting, advanced analytics, among other new features.

The startup recently took part in the Silicon Valley-based Y Combinator accelerator, and has now announced a sizeable funding round led by Accel but also including Cloudera co-founder Amr Awadallah and moPub founder Jim Payne.

The funding will help Instabug provide a comprehensive support kit for mobile apps, as well as grow its new San Francisco office. Since its launch the startup has been used for mobile bug-reporting across 12,000 apps, including 26 of the top 100 apps in the App Store.

With the new funding, Instabug aims to scale beyond bug-reporting to offering full-scale solutions to help mobile apps engage with both beta users and production users.

Their experience in the mobile and developer tools industry is what we wanted to add to help us to grow the company,” said Omar Gabr, chief executive officer (CEO) and co-founder of Instabug.

“Moreover, there are many amazing startups in Egypt that haven’t gotten a chance to shine yet. We’re excited to draw the attention of Silicon Valley investors to Egypt, and help support the growing startup scene there.”

Accel Partners has been an active investor in developer tools and mobile infrastructure companies, with investments in moPub, Segment, Dropbox, Sentry and Airwatch, among others.
