Nigerian startup Furnish.ng is seeing growth from its online furniture, homeware and interior design store, and is planning to add more products in the coming period.
Launched by Ndianabasi Udonkang in April of last year, Furnish.ng provides Nigerians at home or in the diaspora with easy access to a wide range of homeware and furniture that they would struggle to find in traditional showrooms.
Udonkang told Disrupt Africa the platform is centred around comprehensive order customisations.
“You are not forced to buy what you see, rather you have the chance to customise features such as fabric colour, leather texture, castors, wood finishes and seating configuration,” he said.
“Once customised, your custom design will be manufactured and delivered right to your home or office. We interface between customers and local carpenters and ensure that items ordered by customers are manufactured to specification and delivered timely and safely. Our prices are also at least 50 per cent lower than the prices of similar items in high-street showrooms.”
All of this has seen Furnish.ng grow at a speedy rate. In the last three months, the business has seen revenue increase by over 1,000 per cent compared to the same period last year. All this in spite of being self-funded, bar a small grant from the Nigerian government’s Aso Villa Demo Day project, which Udonkang had been very helpful.
“This has helped the company rent a decent office space. Hitherto, the business was running from the founder’s studio apartment,” he said.
Furnish.ng is also planning to launch new products.
“Our expansion plans include the Furnish.ng marketplace, which will allow vendors to list and sell furniture, homeware, artworks, crafts, cookware and décor items,” Udonkang said.
“We also intend to commence paid advertisements of our products to boost sales and growth.”
