Kenya’s @iLabAfrica, the research centre located at Nairobi’s Strathmore University, has partnered local IT solutions firm Copy Cat to collaborate in driving innovations in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by @iLabAfrica and Copy Cat will see the two entities col­lab­or­a­te on research and develop­ment while also build­ing new tech solu­tions in areas such as smart mall, smart park­ing and smart cit­ies solu­tions.

@iLabAfrica and Copy Cat will alsowork together to arrange fund­ing, ment­or­ship, train­ing and incub­a­tion for Kenyan ven­tures in the IoT space and organ­ise related events such as hack​a​thons.

“IoT is becom­ing an increas­ingly grow­ing topic of con­ver­sa­tion both in the work­place and out­side of it. It’s a concept that not only has the poten­tial to impact how we live but also how we are work­ing in this day and age. We there­fore have to embrace this at the earli­est and that is why we decided to part­ner with @iLabAfrica and see what we can achieve together,” said Vishal Patel, exec­ut­ive dir­ector of Copy Cat.

@iLabAfrica was established in Janu­ary 2011 with the aim of addressing the Mil­len­nium Devel­op­ment Goals (MDGs) and to con­trib­ute toward Kenya’s Vis­ion2030. The research cen­ter is involved in inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research, student engage­ment, and col­lab­or­a­tion with gov­ern­ment, industry and other fund­ing agencies.
