//

Seedstars World has selected 10 startups to pitch at its event in Harare, Zimbabwe for the chance to represent the country at the global final in Switzerland and pitch for up to US$1 million in equity investment.

Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has been hosting local events across Africa this year, and has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Rwanda, Angola and Morocco.

It will hold its pitching event in Harare on October 27 at Impact Hub Harare, with the winner heading to the Seedstars Summit next year alongside other winning startups from across the world.

The startups selected include peer-networking app Commonground, payments startup Badala, stock market assistance tool Equities Nest, skills platform FundoLinker, and energy startup JMP Africa.

Completing the list are food ordering service Munch, bus ticketing service myRunner, SMS and social media platform Shirishanu, news startup Tipster, and wedding planning platform Plan My Wedding.

“The first Zimbabwean Seedstars World Event in 2016 added value to our Impact Hub community and the greater local ecosystem,” said Tadzoka Pswarayi, co-founder of Impact Hub Harare.

“Being part of a global movement of emerging market innovation ignited local startups and resulted in the emergence of new innovations that have the potential to deeply impact our communities. The event created symbiotic benefit between local and international entrepreneurs and investors.”
