#Africa MIT Global Startups Labs comes to SA

//

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has partnered with South Africa’s Wits University and the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) to offer MIT’s Global Startups Labs programme to South African entrepreneurs.

MIT Global Startup Labs partners with universities in emerging regions and organises advanced courses for tech-enabled entrepreneurs, which are taught by MIT instructors.

The intensive course focuses on mobile and internet technologies, and is structured so that participants can realise the commercial possibilities of technology.

Components of the course include detailed technical curriculum, funded business competitions, guest lectures and networking events, aimed at helping participants transition from being aspiring to active entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs will be selected to join the programme based on their submissions of innovative tech ideas.

The organisers said the programme is best suited to teams who either have an idea for a startup, or are already in the early stages of pursuing their business.

“We are looking for teams that exhibit a sense of cohesion, drive, and creativity to be a part of what promises to be an exciting and fulfilling 2016 programme,” said Professor Barry Dwolatzky, director of the JCSE.

The course will take place from June 22 to July 16 at Wits University.

Applications can be made here.
