#Africa Nigeria’s MAX acquires food delivery startup Easyappetite

Nigerian on-demand delivery startup Metro Africa Express (MAX) has acquired Lagos-based Easyappetite as it prepares to launch a food delivery service.

Launched in August 2015, MAX MAX provides ordering apps, payment processing and last-mile delivery support to retail businesses and mobile consumers.

The startup – which raised a US$960,000 funding round in March of this year – has now acquired Easyappetite as it plans to roll out a bespoke food delivery arm – MAX Eats. Easyappetite co-founder Deji Opoola has also joined MAX in a marketing role. Easyappetite was launched in 2012.

“The founder had significant experience with restaurants and food delivery in Lagos so it was a talent driven acquisition,” MAX co-founder Adetayo Bamiduro told Disrupt Africa.

MAX, which plans on expanding across Africa over the next few years, was formed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and has won a number of notable awards since its inception.

Last December Disrupt Africa reported it came in second place at the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield event in London, while it also won a “Top 12 Global Inclusive Growth Idea” from the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Harvard Center for International Development.

It was also the first African team to gain admission into the Techstars startup accelerator programme in New York.
