#Africa Online logistics platform KOBO to launch in Nigeria

//

Mobile application KOBO, which enables individuals and businesses to request or schedule pickup of packages and track it until its final destination, is set for public launch in Nigeria having undergone beta testing.

The e-courier space is hotting up in Nigeria, with Disrupt Africa reporting recently on the launch of Jalo in Abuja. KOBO started beta testing in April, and has so far has moved over 500,000kg for more than 1,000 users locally and internationally.

All local deliveries using the app are guaranteed to be delivered within 48 hours, while international deliveries take a maximum of 72 hours. KOBO claims to be democratising transportation in the way it aggregates supply or logistics agents.

The startup allows existing courier companies, airlines, commercial drivers, private drivers, road and air travellers to sign up to provide logistics services to users requesting pick-up through the KOBO app.

“KOBO’s technology and its focus on driving efficiency from existing infrastructure makes it more dynamic in providing cost effective logistics solutions for businesses in Nigeria,” the company said.

“Most of these businesses cannot afford DHL, UPS and FedEx prices, so what we are providing are services that are above DHL standards at a heavy discount. The secret is technology, which allows us to bring together multiple logistics providers and their unique offering to bear.”

Currently, KOBO is focusing on mail and parcels for individuals and SMEs. It claims to be about 40 per cent cheaper than the leading logistics providers in Nigeria.
