#Africa SA startup launches edly admin platform for teachers

//

South African software development startup DataDIGEST has launched a cloud-based administrative platform for school teachers, allowing them to track, record and communicate about student attendance and behaviour.

The new platform, edly, comprises a suite of three apps which can be accessed on any computer, tablet or smartphone.

The first two apps, edly Behaviour and edly Attendance, allow teachers to easily track, record and share with other teachers class attendance and student behaviour.  Student information is stored in the apps, and teachers can view students’ behavioural history instantly. Similarly,  if a student displays especially good or bad behaviour, the teacher can notify teachers of following classes.

The third app, edly Note!, sends real-time reports to parents, and allows teachers to easily communicate with parents.

The platform also allows schools to customise what is monitored within the apps, and to preset responses in line with the school’s code of conduct. For example, the school can set which behaviours to track specifically, and can set certain behaviours to be automatically reported to parents.

“We believe teachers are the key to a great education and that’s why we develop solutions that empower them in the classroom. Here in South Africa, social challenges and syllabi that keep changing are just some of the challenges teachers face. With edly we hope to at least help lighten their administrative load,” says DataDIGEST’s chief executive officer (CEO), David de Villiers.

The startup plans to add further apps to the platform, and encourages anyone with ideas to support educators to get in touch.

“Our door is open to developers with great app ideas for edly. If it saves teachers time and makes their job easier in any way – we’re interested,” de Villiers says.

Up to three teachers at a school can access edly for free, after which pricing plans apply.
