#Africa SA’s RadioVybe aims to be universal social network for radio

//

Radio-centric social networking app RadioVybe has launched in South Africa, aiming to become the universal radio app available on every handset.

The RadioVybe website launched in March this year – quickly followed up by an Android and iOS app -, providing a social network that allows users to discover, listen to, and interact with radio stations within and outside their geographical location.

Members can stream music via the app; while the in-app news feed also allows users to see which radio station their friends are listening to. Users can bookmark stations to revisit.

The interactive features of the app allow members to contribute to live radio shows while listening, by posting messages to the radio station’s page; and they can also connect with artists.

Since launching, the startup has already attracted over 7,000 signups; and has seen uptake from stations and musicians in the United States, South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania, the UK, and the Netherlands.

“RadioVybe was created not only to make radio stations more interactive but also to bring radios closer to listeners. RadioVybe makes it possible to take your favorite radio station everywhere you go,” says co-founder Ayke Ezeani.

“In the nearest feature, RadioVybe aims to become the universal radio app on every mobile handset.”

The app is available via the Google Playstore and Apple App Store.
