Echelon Thailand is upon us again. Both novice and veteran entrepreneurs can expect to not only witness up and coming startups from various verticals but also glean valuable insights from thought leaders in the startup ecosystem.

Here is a list of 10 speakers and the panels or keynotes they will be participating in.

Pawoot Pongvitayapanu, Managing Director and Founder, Rakuten TARAD

Besides being the Managing Director and Founder of Thailand-based Rakuten TARAD, a B2B marketplace acquired by leading Japan-based e-commerce marketplace Rakuten in 2009, Pawoot Pongvitayapanu, dubbed the “Thailand Internet Icon & Pioneer”, is also the President of the Thai e-commerce Association and consultant for Thai Webmaster Association.

In addition, he is the Founder and Director of  Zocial Inc, a social media monitoring tool that was launched in 2011 and the Founder and CEO of efracstructure, an e-commerce solutions provider that was launched in 2013.

Pongvitayapanu will be participating in the ‘Startup Compass: Exit Strategy 101′ panel on Day 1.

Willix Halim, Senior Vice President of Growth, Freelancer.com

At US-based Freelancer.com, an online global freelancer crowdsourcing marketplace, Willix Halim oversees and manages a gamut of operations including revenue, product management, engineering, data science and customer operations. Outside the company, he also conducts speaking engagements internationally and also lectures at universities on topics such as growth, strategy and data science.

Halim will be speaking about data sciene in his keynote address ’17 Million Users Through Data Science and Funnel Optimisation’ on Day 2.

Esther Nguyen, CEO, POPS Worldwide

Esther Nguyen has founded a number of successful startups and first started working in Vietnam in 2004. She founded Vietnam-based POPS Worldwide in 2007, a leading digital media company in Vietnam, maximising distribution, monetisation and customer engagement for artists and content owners across all major platforms, devices and countries.

She will be speaking on her entrepreneurial journey in her keynote address ‘The Chronicles Of Esther Nguyen: From Silicon Valley to Saigon’ on Day 2.

Takahiro Haneda, APAC Marketing Director, App Annie

As the APAC Marketing Director of App Annie, an app data analytics tool, Haneda supports App Annie’s effort in empowering app publishers and developers to build a better app business across Asia. He currently overseas marketing in the APAC region of China, Korea, Southeast Asia and Japan.

Previously, Haneda was the Director of Marketing at Uzabase in Japan, where he was instrumental in building SPEEDA, a B2B business information platform, and NewsPick, a B2C business news curation app.

Haneda will be participating in the panel discussion ‘How Is Technology Revolutionizing Consumer Lifestyle?’ on Day 1.

Joseph Ziegler, Head, muru-d Singapore

Before becoming Head of Singapore-based accelerator muru-d,  Ziegler began his IT career in Silicon Valley in 1995 where he worked at Netscape developing some of the first e-commerce applications during the early days of the Internet.

His next venture took him to NetGravity and his second classic Internet IPO. After that, Ziegler enjoyed building several startups from the ground up in the role of the technical executive responsible for the company IP and managing engineering groups.

His most recent thriving venture was Iris Data Services, which landed on the “Forbes 500 Fastest Growing Companies in the US” list. Today, he continues to work with startups providing technical expertise and angel investment support.

Ziegler will be participating in the panel discussion on ‘Engaging The Missing Ecosystem Growth Catalysts’ on Day 1.

Andrew Kvalseth, Head of Strategy and Innovation Division, dtac

Kvalseth has over 13 years leadership experience in strategy, venture capital, tech and financial services. He has lived and worked in the US, UK, Norway, Sweden and is now living in Thailand working as Head of Strategy, innovation and Financial Services for dtac, the second largest GSM mobile phone provider in Thailand.

Kvalseth joined dtac from Telenor group where he worked as Chief Strategy Officer at Telenor Digital.

Kvalseth will be addressing corporate support for startups in his keynote address ‘How Corporates Are Helping The Startup Ecosystem In Thailand’ on Day 2.

Dr Karndee Leopairote, Managing Director, C asean

As a Managing Director of C asean, Karndee Leopairote aims to build a networking platform for collaboration among startups and future generation across the region to support the development of ASEAN community through various connectivity initiatives.

Prior to C asean, Leopairote was an assistant professor at the Department of Operations Management, Thammasat Business School and an executive director of the Future Innovative Thailand Institute.

Leopairote will be participating in the panel discussion on ‘Engaging The Missing Ecosystem Growth Catalysts’ on Day 1.

Charles Rim, Managing Director, Tapjoy Korea and Southeast Asia, and Venture Partner, DFJ Athena, Korea

As Managing Director of Tapjoy Korea and Southeast Asia, a monetisation and distribution services provider for mobile apps, Charles Rim was responsible for launching Tapjoy’s APAC presence, secured partnerships with market leaders  such as SKPlanet’s Tstore in 2012 and Kakao Talk in 2013.

Rim has over 20 years of experience in Asia, and the past 14 years in the Internet/media sector. Prior to joining Tapjoy, Rim spent five years as a Principal in the Corporate Development team of Google, heading M&A activities in Asia (ex-China).

Rim remains as a Venture Partner with DFJ Athena, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital fund with offices in Seoul, with a particular focus on everything related to mobile Internet.

Join Rim in his keynote speech about ‘Mobile App Trends in Analytics, Marketing and User Acquisition’ on Day 2.

Krating Poonpol, Venture Partner and Kauffman Fellow Class 20, 500 Startups 

Krating Poonpol is currently a Venture Partner of 500 Startups and is a Managing Partner responsible for its US$10 million Thailand-specific micro fund named 500 TukTuks.

Poonpol is also Founder of Disrupt University, a Bangkok-based accelerator with an aim to bridge resources from Silicon Valley startups and tech companies with Thailand’s entrepreneurs. He is also  the ex-CEO and Founder of social network startup Mobilitz Inc in Silicon Valley.

Poonpol will be participating in the Fireside Chat ‘Embracing The Early Adopter Culture in Southeast Asia’, with e27 correspondent Elaine Huang on Day 1.

Ariya Banomyong, Managing Director, Line Thailand

Ariya Banomyong is the first Managing Director of LINE Thailand. He has overseen LINE’s marketing strategies and advanced business development in Thailand since October 2015.

Banomyong has a track record of strong leadership combined with 18 years of experience and extensive industry knowledge in the technology and mobile business areas. Prior to joining LINE, Ariya was the first Country Head of Google Thailand, where he was responsible for sales and business development.

In addition to his international experiences, Ariya was formerly responsible for customer relationship management at Netonomy and partner channel development at Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories (formerly a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent) in France.

Banomyong will be a keynote speaker on Day 1.
