South Jakarta-based coworking space Comma today announced that it is finally closing down business for good.

In an official statement, the company stated they will officially stop operating on March 25.

The founders — Ario Pratomo, Dondi Hananto, Michael Tampi, Yoris Sebastian, Rene Suhardono, and Dodong Chayono — cited the inability to generate profits to make a sustainable business.

“In addition to our own shortcomings and challenging external situation i.e. rental cost and major road construction, coworking business needs careful consideration – especially on determining spot on business model. Following many months of experimentation, we are sad to say we are unable to continue the operations of Comma,” according to the statement.

The company also stated that it will be open to share what it has learned through its ‘experiments and failures’.

Comma is believed to be one of the first coworking spaces in Jakarta.

Before experiencing slowing down of business — possibly also due to increasingly competitive climate in the city’s coworking space business — it experienced three full years of success as one of the leading coworking spaces in Jakarta.

Apart from providing coworking space for freelancers and small businesses, it also provided a venue for events.
