Indonesia will be the fifth country FlySpaces has an operation in

Online marketplace for short-term office space FlySpaces launches in Jakarta on Wednesday, marking its entry to the fifth country it operates in.

It listed popular coworking space and virtual office services such as Conclave and Regus in its platform.

“Jakarta is simply an amazing market,” said FlySpaces CEO and Founder Mario Berta in a press statement.

“Together with Manila, it is the city that I am most excited about, being the capital of Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. With tremendous growth, enormous numbers of SMEs, and of course its vibrant startup scene with high caliber companies such as Go-Jek, there is little doubt of its potential,” he explained.

Berta also announced that the company is in the process of securing a new round of funding.

“The beauty of a model like ours is that we actually generate plenty of cash flow every month. This is what is
allowing us to keep expanding without fundraising, although we are in the final stage of negotiation with potential investors,” he said.

FlySpaces has presence in Singapore, Manila, Cebu, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Macau. It said to have helped “more than” 400 SMEs and multinational companies find work space solutions. Its notable users including Uber, Google, Heineken, AstraZeneca, and Nestle.

The company acquired Malaysia-based coworking space 8spaces for an undisclosed amount of cash and equity in November 2016.

It has recently launched a “Passport” programme in Manila, enabling users to access different working spaces in the city with only one subscription package.

In Indonesia, startups offering similar service to the company is XWORK, which offers booking service for meeting rooms and working spaces.

A spacious enough market

According to the a 2012 data from the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Jakarta is home to around 300,000 SMEs that the company indicated as its potential users.

Despite challenges faced by the industry, Indonesia continues to see rapid growth of coworking spaces in its major cities, from Jakarta, Bandung, to Ubud.

Wednesday also saw the launch of Jakarta Creative Hub, a subsidised coworking space owned and operated by the city government. Earlier in January, Indonesia also saw the launch of H-Cube, its first coworking space dedicated for startups working in health and medical sector.

Businesses are competing in offering unique values to their customers, such as seen with the recent launch of Cre8’s second coworking space, which is located in a shopping mall.
