Global electronics major Apple Inc. has announced the opening of its App Accelerator in India’s IT hub of Bangalore.

The accelerator will provide specialised support for developers, including tools and best practices to hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform, the company said in a statement.

The accelerator features Apple technology evangelists who will provide specialised briefings for over 500 developers every week. They will also offer detailed app analysis feedback for developers as they work to enhance their apps.

The facility will also provide support and guidance on Swift, Apple’s intuitive programming language created to build apps for iOS, Apple TV and Apple Watch.

“We are impressed by the great entrepreneurial spirit in India,” said Philip Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple. “In just the first few weeks, we’ve already seen some incredible developers here at the App Accelerator Bangalore, including Practo and Reliance Games, create innovative apps that can meet the needs of customers in India and around the world.”

The accelerator is now open to iOS developers in India through a sign-up process on the App Accelerator’s website.

India has one of the most vibrant and exciting iOS developer communities in the world and already tens of thousands of developers in India make apps for iOS.

Last week, news reports suggested that Apple will start assembling high-end iPhones in the city in less than a month. Taiwanese contract manufacturer Wistron Corp will help Apple in this regard, said a PTI report citing Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge. However, as per some other reports, Apple will not manufacture its latest iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.

Earlier, a Mint article said that Apple is unlikely to receive special concessions from the Indian government to manufacture its iPhones in the country. Citing an official at the Commerce Ministry, the report said offering the the tax incentives the firm has sought would mean discriminating against other phone manufacturers that have already set up plants in India.
