Indonesian C2C marketplace Bukalapak announced that its CEO Achmad Zaky had received the prestigious Satyalencana Wira Karya award from President Joko Widodo on Thursday, July 21. The award was given during a National Cooperatives Day ceremony in the city of Jambi.

Satyalencana Wira Karya is one of the most prestigious, highest possible award bestowed upon an Indonesian civilian for their service and achievement in business field. The award can be given posthumously; it is based on the individual’s impact towards the society and duration of service in their respective fields.

According to an official statement, Zaky was being given the award due to his “active contribution in economic development by building an online marketplace platform to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) expand their market prospect … that eventually gives a high impact for the society.”

Bukalapak’s contribution in helping SMEs improve their businesses included the launch of a digital marketing and intellectual property right training for entrepreneurs, as a result of partnership with Creative Economy Council (BEKRAF) in April. The programme also included financial support, talent development, and product development for the SMEs.

Apart from the award from the government, Bukalapak also won The Loyalty and Engagement Awards 2016 for The Best Use of Consumer Insight/Data Analytics and The Best Use of Mobile cathegories in Singapore, July 15.

As one of the leading e-commerce platform in Indonesia, the company recently had to deny reports of an upcoming IPO. Together with Kaskus.id, Bukalapak was one of the Indonesian startups which had been offered the opportunity to go public, according to a statement from an Indonesian Stock Exchange official.
