#Asia Can the world’s most famous taxi app UberEATS the competition?

With UberEATS rolling out across North America and Singapore’s history of ‘Uber firsts’, the launch in the Lion City is no surprise

UberEATS

Deliveroo, Foodpanda, Grain. And now we have UberEATS. Man, these days the only reason Singaporeans need to leave the house is to jog off those delicious calories.

Joking aside, Uber today announced the launch of its food delivery platform UberEATS in the city; its first location in Asia. The company says it has over 100 restaurants on its platform.

The app is very similar to other food delivery platforms but does integrate easily with existing Uber accounts (all it requires is remembering the username and password and everything is good to go).

As of now, the service is not available throughout the city but only in the Central Business District, Tanjong Pagar, Orchard and River Valley neighborhoods. Uber plans to expand the service in the future.

For those with the late night munchies, unfortunately the service may not be an option as it operates between 11am and 10pm.

But, despite time and location restrictions the majority reaction on Twitter was one of excitement and enthusiasm.

Uber has long made Singapore its initial launch point after the city became the first domicile to embrace the ride-hailing service. Afterwards, Singapore was the first place in Asia to kick-off UberX.

Unlike regional competitor (although not a Singapore player) Go-jek, the UberEATS service has been separated from the food delivery portion. Fans of Uber will need to download two apps.

“We learned quickly that requesting a ride and ordering a meal are two very different experiences. They each deserve their own home,” the original Uber launch release reads.

The initial kickoff of the service was across various US cities and Toronto, Canada on March 15.
