At some point we have all been overwhelmed with the choices of opting for a good camera, or going in for long battery life, better features, good looks, or keeping the budget under check for our new phone. With a wide range of phones on offer these days, buying a new smartphone can be quite mind-boggling.

Smartly.me wants to eliminate the confusion and provide you with a range of options for smartphones and apps that suit you best based on your usage and needs.

Through the app, you can get the best personalised recommendations and also get detailed smartphone and price comparisons for Android phones.

“There are a number of websites and apps that provide you catalogues of phones, so the consumer has to go through them, filter them and then make a choice, Smartly is a personalisation tool,” says Palash Patil, Co-Founder of MobiOrbit Labs, which operates the Smartly.me app, in a chat with e27.

As soon as the person launches the application, the app understands his usage behaviour, the applications that he has on his phone and his device storage needs. It has over 30 aptitudes, which it captures before it recommends devices that were meant just for you.

“The person need not be very tech-savvy. All the recommendations that we give are justified with comparisons with other competing phones,” says Patil.

And if you feel your current usage doesn’t depict correctly what you might be looking for in your next phone, Smartly.me provides you the option to select the features you are looking for in a phone and then provide you with recommendations.

Apart from smartphones, it also recommends apps for you to download as well as reviews of the latest phones. It showcases the upcoming launches also, just in case you want to postpone buying to wait for a new model that’s just around the corner.

The app’s news and reviews section gives you that push to spend more time on the app by providing aggregated information from various sites.

The Bangalore-based startup was founded in December 2014, by Patil and his Co-Founders Muralidhar Rajan and Santosh Prabhu. It is currently being bootstrapped by its Founders.

Previous experience of working with mobile phone companies and interacting directly with customers made them realise the potential of such an app.

“Usually, on an average, customers change their phone every 11 months, which we saw as a good opportunity,” says Patil.

What comes after the customer buys the phone?

To tide over that issue and retain users on its app, Smartly.me also offers information about the nearest service centres. Patil says they are also in the process of adding recommendations about phone accessories.

With mobile phones reaching the hands of the lowest layer of the economic pyramid, regional language features have emerged in a big way in India. To cash in on that, Smartly.me will also be launched in several regional languages, says Patil.

With over 7,000 downloads since it was launched in October 2015, Patil says Smartly.me is partnering with large-format electronic goods retail stores, wherein the user can browse through their app to know more about the mobile phones and compare phones on the spot.

“We aspire to become a one-stop solution for the buyer,” says Patil as he highlights how users can also buy mobile phones through the app. The app guides users to its partner e-commerce website where they can purchase the phone.
