Deliveroo Singapore today announced that it has appointed Siddharth Shanker as their new General Manager, according to a press statement by the company.

Shanker is set to replace Tristan Torres Velat, who left the position of general manager in October 2016 to pursue other projects. Before Shanker’s appointment, the position was held by Director of International Expansion Merten Wulfert.

Prior to this appointment, Shanker was a Senior GM at Uber India where he was part of the team that set up the ride-hailing giant in the country, particularly in Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad.

He had also worked in Barclays Capital Singapore.

“I am excited to be back in Singapore – which is home in more ways than one – and to be joining Deliveroo, which is at the forefront of technology, lifestyle and logistics. In India, I built a team and a business from the ground up and now I can really lean on that experience and work with the team at Deliveroo to create a fantastic experience for customers, restaurants and riders,” he said.

Apart from Singapore and India, Shanker had also lived in France. He received his MBA and B. Eng (Hons.) at INSEAD and NUS.

He is set to “play an integral role” in driving Deliveroo Singapore’s expansion and development.

Deliveroo stated that it currently has “more than” 2,500 restaurants in its portfolio and over 1,600 riders.

In an interview with e27 before his resignation, Velat cited a plan to build a centralised kitchen where the restaurants “are only going to be cooking delivery from there.” That way, it is expected that the restaurants will not have dining customers and can prepare the food 50 to 60 per cent faster than in their own restaurant.

It has recently expanded to CBD and Tanglin zones.

Founded in 2013 by William Shu and Greg Orlowski, Deliveroo operates in 130 cities across 12 countries in Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.

In November 2016, the company discovered “fraudulent activities” that affected a “small number” of its customers in Singapore. The hack had also affected its customers in the UK.
