#Asia Duniaku.net raises seed funding from DNC, aims to give stronger support to Indonesian creative industry


The investment to Duniaku.net is the latest DNC has made in Indonesian market for gaming and related services

Indonesian online news portal portal for gaming, geek culture, and gadgets Duniaku.net today announced that it has raised an undisclosed seed funding round from Discovery Nusantara Capital (DNC), putting it in the list of the venture capital firm’s portfolio in the nation’s for gaming and related services.

In a press statement, though the startup did not give full details on its plan with the funding, it aims to become the “leading game, geek culture, and gadget media” in Southeast Asia and to support the different subsectors in Indonesia’s creative industry, from game app development, comic, animation, film, and e-sport.

Accordng to a research gathered by Duniaku.net and the Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF), in 2015, Indonesian game developers have only been able to capture less than five per cent of total market value.

e27 has reached out to the startup to clarify the details of their plan.

It also announced that starting from April 2017, Duniaku.net and its other sites will be operating under new incorporation PT. Inspirasi Dunia Media (IDEA Network).

Duniaku.net Founders sign agreement with DNC

Based in East Jakarta, the startup’s journey began in 2010 when Chief Creative Officer Ami Raditya was still leading a printed gaming magazine. He then invited Robbi Baskoro to join as Non-Executive Director, and when his printed magazine shut down, Raditya also brought in his content team into the new company.

Apart from an onine platform, Duniaku.net also hosted offline B2B gaming event Game Prime, as a result of partnership with Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF) and Indonesia Game Association (AGI).

Duniaku.net’s primary target readers are gaming, geek culture, and gadget fans of millenial generation.

“We try to encourage them to engage more in creative industry, motivating those who are still fans to become supporters of the industry, and those who have already been supporters to become actors or creators in the industry,” said Duniaku.net CEO Ricky Setiawan.

It claimed to be read by more than 39 million readers each year. The startup cited Naruto, One Piece, Dota 2, ROmance of Three Kingdoms, and Android as some of its “favourite topics.”
