Global accelerator programme Rockstart announced the appointment of Alan Soon as the Managing Director of its programme in Singapore.

Previously, Soon was Managing Editor for Yahoo India and Southeast Asia, and via positions at Bloomberg and CNBC. He founded The Splice Newsroom, which helps design and drive digital transformations in newsrooms, and also advises several startups at the intersection of media and tech.

In the first six months, Soon plans to focus on “strengthening the international investor community supporting the Singapore programme, engaging a diverse mentor network and kicking off the first programme in the region.”

He will also focus on building the team from scratch.

“It’s not often that we find someone with Alan’s experience and capabilities who combines international corporate experience with an equally compelling startup profile. This adds significant value to our team and our global offering,” said Rune Theill, CEO and Co-Founder of Rockstart, in a written statement.

Soon cited the momentum as “a great time to put our plans into action.”

“I’ve seen a tremendous amount of energy, ideas and talent in Asia. Startups are hungry to execute. Rockstart, with its five years of experience as Europe’s top accelerator, is a strong partner for entrepreneurs in Asia,” he explained.
