You’d want to discover the bugs before they bite your users. At least, that’s what UncoverBugs helps you achieve.

Being the first crowdsourced app testing startup in the Philippines that was launched last August 2015, UncoverBugs aims to help fellow startups test their websites, video games, and mobile apps to discover bugs that they need to address. Sam Deleña, Founder of UncoverBugs, believes that getting rid of bugs in apps is an imperative.

“The reality is, big or small companies do not test enough. They release apps that are not yet ready for the market. UncoverBugs was born out of the need to have a third party company to inform them if there are critical bugs and get immediate feedback before their app reaches their target market,” says Sam.

This startup is currently self-funded because the UncoverBugs team believes that bootstrapping and building the business from scratch using their team’s expertise will help them grow the business using the flexibility of quick decision making because of fewer stakeholders. While most startups are looking into accelerators to generate RoI in the soonest time possible, UncoverBugs is adopting the practice of traditional businesses of working on its growth as they go.

UncoverBugs currently has 200 professional testers together with people from other professions in the Philippines who do freelance software testing. An app can be tested throughout the country with as much as 1,000 simultaneous testers with various mobile phones, tablets, and computer models.

Their existing clientele includes LBC, The Global Filipino Investors Web Academy, Gold Mobile Software, and Zap Philippines. What’s interesting to note is that 80 per cent of their clients are repeat clients. “There’s a common trend here in PH where Devs themselves are testing their own work to cut cost. This model proves to be more expensive in the long run, so UncoverBugs exist to save startups from expensive mistakes. That’s the reason why they always come back,” Sam says of why his clients keep coming back for their services.

Dustin Cheng, CEO and Co-founder of Zap Philippines, is one of those repeat clients of UncoverBugs. “We decided to give UncoverBugs a shot because of their friendly pricing and because of a good recommendation from a fellow startup. We liked the idea that they had internal dedicated testers as well as the capability to crowdsource bug testing to hundreds of other testers as well.”

When asked why he kept availing their services, he pointed out that the bugs discovered by UncoverBugs reduced the workload of Zap Philippines’ tech team and the proactive updates on the tests also helped when they got too busy to follow up.

What does the future look like for UncoverBugs? They plan on expanding the testing crowd to residents of the Asia-Pacific Region, and also adding apps at ATM machines, Kiosk and IoT devices to their roster.

A bug-free tech world in the Philippines? Sounds good to me.
