In a move to bolster its engineering team, Go-Jek will fully assimilate Leftshift and move the team to Bangalore

Go-Jek

Indonesia’s ride-hailing giant, Go-Jek has announced today the acquihire of an India-based mobile application development startup Leftshift Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

The financial details of the purchase were not disclosed.

The acquisition follows a pattern for Go-Jek as the company has put considerable resources into India through acquisition. This is the fourth Indian company acquired by Go-Jek and the second of this year.

In September, Go-jek acquired the home healthcare services company Pianta. Last year, the company bought a boutique technology consultancy agency named C42 engineering along with CodeIgnition, a company that helped startups build and deploy product for their companies.

The moves appear to be a strategy to acquire engineering talent. The India operations are focussed on data mining, product innovation and consumer experience and the announcement highlighted that the acquisition brings Go-Jek’s India engineering team from 60 employees to over 100.

Furthermore, Go-jek said it will continue to keep an eye out for potential acquisitionsto “shore up its India operations” in areas like data science, mobile, DevOps and security.

“Our partnership with Leftshift over the last one year has been an amazing experience – they are arguably among the best mobile app developers in the country. We look forward to their immensely capable team becoming a part of the Go-Jek family”, said Sidu Ponnappa, Managing Director of Go-Jek Engineering India in an official statement.

Following the acquisition, Leftshift, based in the city of Pune, will assimilate into Go-Jek’s India arm and the staff will be relocated to Bangalore.

The development studio was founded in 2007 and bootstrapped over the last nine years. It focussed on building user-friendly apps for companies and claimed CitrusPay, PepperTap, Airtel and Emerson as notable clients.

Go-Jek was also a client of Leftshift prior to the acquisition and the Indian startup played a role in the development of Go-Jek’s mobile app — which has now been dowloaded over 25 million times.

“The opportunities and challenges at Go-Jek are beyond thrilling. Being fully aware of its operations, we immediately knew that our resources and technology would certainly complement and accelerate product development at G0-Jek,” said Leftshift Founder and CEO Sudhanshu Raheja in an official statement.
