It seems ASEAN-focussed VC investor Gobi Partners is on an investment spree. The venture fund has just announced its third deal of this week, with a lead investment in Malaysian e-commerce group Nuren’s US$2 million Series A round.

This comes hot on the heels of the VC’s investments in on-demand services startup RecomN and youth sponsorship platform YouthsToday.

Nuren Group will use the fresh investment to enhance its product and service offerings, bring on new talents and improve e-commerce capabilities. It also plans to accelerate user and sales growth across all target markets and verticals, according to an official statement.

This investment will also allow the company to strengthen its offline channels, including bridal events, wedding workshops, venue partnerships and marriage registrars.

“In addition to our online presence, we have established strong partnerships with industry players like wedding associations and mother groups to reach out to our users. We also have strategic collaborations with bridal and motherhood fair organisers and magazine publishers. In this way, we make sure we can successfully reach out to users in an early and comprehensive way as they begin the planning process for weddings and new additions to their families,” said Petrina Goh, Founder and CEO of Nuren.

The group was established in September 2013 by Goh, along with Kelvin Leow (CTO), Stacey Lee (COO) and Alice Ong (CSO).

Nuren is a female-dedicated content, community and e-commerce platform. The group operates e-commerce platforms for weddings Wedding.com.my (Malaysia) and Nuren.sg (Singapore), in addition to Motherhood.com.my, where users can discover ideas, find vendors and shop online.

The startup takes a content and community approach to e-commerce, allowing users to interact, engage and share ideas with one another. It also serves as an online platform for industry vendors to connect with users, generate leads and complete sales.

Wedding.com.my offers couples a one-stop shop for wedding planning, providing a wide range of products and services to help users plan their weddings more conveniently and affordably. Product and service items available include bridal and groom apparel, make-up and beauty, gifts and cards, venue and decoration, travel and honeymoon, and wedding services such as photography and videography.

The company also offers wedding consulting services via Nuren’s expert wedding planning team.

Motherhood.com.my is a go-to site for mothers and expecting mothers to care for themselves and their children. Currently operating as content and directory portal, the site will officially launch marketplace features in mid this year, offering important products and services across maternity, infant and children categories. The site serves as a marketplace for children brands and businesses to offer their products and services to mothers. Product and service items available include diapers, infant and toddler food, feeding accessories, strollers and gadgets, nursing and bedding, toys and apparel, and early learning materials and courses.

Since launch, the group claims to have connected over 300,000 couples with 1,500 vendors.

Over the next two years, Nuren aims to establish a presence across five countries in Southeast Asia, reaching out to over one million couples.

Previously, Nuren has received RM1 million (US$250,000) from N Capital Partners and two other angel investors.
