Grab will now have six R&D centres across the world

Southeast Asian ride-hailing giant Grab has today announced the launch of two new R&D centres in Bangalore, India and Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.

Prior to this, it had already established four R&D centres in Beijing, Seattle, Singapore and Jakarta.

Grab’s Bangalore R&D centre will be located in Indira Nagar and will house up to 200 engineers. They will focus on developing new payments technologies for its digital payment platform GrabPay.

It will also be hosting a recruitment event in Bangalore between 24 March, 8am and 25 March 6pm. Interested candidates can register for the hiring weekend here.

Engineers in the Vietnam R&D centre will focus on building in-app user experiences tailored for the Vietnamese market.

For its Singapore and Seattle teams, Grab has plans to move them into a bigger space.

Grab Singapore will move into a new office measuring almost 100,000 sq ft space (more than double the size of its current office) in CBD. In Seattle, its new office will be located in Columbia Center, 6,500 sq ft bigger than its current space.

Grab also announced it will be adding over 800 R&D jobs in the next two years across its six R&D centres.

“Southeast Asia is developing at a breakneck pace and we have an unprecedented opportunity to deliver a platform that caters to the region’s mobile-first environment and infrastructural needs. Addressing such challenges requires a combination of deep local understanding and best-in-class engineering,” said Tan Hooi Ling, co-founder, Grab, in an official press statement.
