Japan is ranked second in countries with the most number of users (20 per cent), who clicked on malicious URLs in 2015, according to a research.

The US, with 34 per cent users, is ranked first on the list.graph 1

Other countries on the list are Australia (4 per cent), Taiwan (4 per cent), India (3 per cent) and China (3 per cent).

The research was conducted by Trend Micro, a leading company in the security software. The firm claimed that it prevented about 5.16 billion malicious files from infecting devices in 2015. While this number seems huge, it is half of what was blocked in 2014.

This downward trend is reflective of the changes in the global threat landscape. These include file-less malware installations and threats that are not entirely malware-based such as exploit kits.graph-2

Since the most common infection vectors are spam and malicious URLs, individuals and organisations can benefit from email and web reputation and filtering.
