Mumbai is India’s financial capital. It’s also one of the most expensive places for real estate in the country. But you don’t have to rent! Plenty of coworking spaces have emerged as answers to this issue. Check out one of the six we’ve listed below the next time you’re in the city – you might even make a new friend or two.

1. The Playce | Mulund West

Located on the northeastern side of Mumbai, The Playce is 5,000 square feet of desks, private cabins, conference rooms, and a gaming room. It holds events every week and is open on weekends. It also hosted India’s first Quora meet up.

A single day at the Playce costs INR499 (US$8). Dedicated desks cost INR6,500 (US$106) per month. For startups and other small teams, plans cost INR5,500 (US$89) per person.

2. Colaba Social | Colaba

Colaba Social is one of those places that starts out as an office space during the day and transitions into a fun spot for dinner and drinks by night.

Those who want to sign up with the coworking space have to fill out an online application form. Once accepted, users pay a membership fee of INR5,000 (US$81) per month to work between 9 am and 6 pm on weekdays. Members get access to high-speed internet, printers, scanners, and an on-demand conference room. This fee includes credit for food and beverages. Even after the credit limit is up, you get a 10 percent discount on the food bill. Members at Social also have the option to work out of their other two locations in Delhi and Bangalore.

3. The Hive | Khar West

The Hive is designed to look like a beehive and describes itself as a space for “creators and makers”. Members can use its theater room, organic cafe, or workshop space to conduct events. It’s hosted everything from movie screenings to open-mic poetry sessions.

Prices range from INR600 (US$10) per day to INR12,000 (US$195) per month. It offers quick access to printers, scanners, on-demand meeting rooms, and is also pet-friendly.

4. Our First Office | Nariman Point, Churchgate, Lower Parel

Our First Office runs three co-working spaces across Mumbai. A dedicated desk costs INR 11,950 (US$194) per month. The package includes high-speed internet, free legal consulting sessions, online community support, and other facilities. A community desk costs INR3,950 (US$64) per person per month.

Those who sign up with Our First Office also receive access to a network of mentors, investors, and entrepreneurs. The package includes services like a “virtual office” and access to a private locker.

5. Bombay Connect | Bandra West

Started by two social entrepreneurs, Bombay Connect is located in Bandra, the most happening part of town. Amenities include a free postal address, kitchen, and open space for meetings. There’s also a small library for those who want a break from work.

A daily pass costs INR999 (US$16) while monthly hours-based membership ranges from INR2,000 (US$32) to INR9,000 (US$146). It also offers group memberships at special rates. Bombay Connect is open on weekdays and Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm.

6. Geekout | Andheri, West

Geekout coworking space in Mumbai

Geekout is Mumbai’s first self-professed coworking space for geeks. Open 24 hours, the space conducts weekly hackathons and technology-focused workshops. Geekout 2.0 is a secondary space with meeting rooms, private cabins, and private desks. Geekout even provides a “freelancer plan” that promises a minimum of 10 weekly leads for freelancers.

At Geekout 2.0, a dedicated desk comes at INR5,500 (US$89) per month. This includes the cost of storage space, a parking space, coffee machines, and a pantry. The other Geekout pad can be rented at INR8,000 (US$130) per month and is open between 10 pm to 8 am for INR200 (US$3) per night.
