Internet TV platform iflix today announced the appointment of David Goldstein as its new Head of Asia.

According to an official statement, Goldstein had worked as a Special Advisor to the company over the ‘last five months’  and will now lead iflix on its effort to sustain growth in the region.

“Having developed an in-depth understanding of the phenomenal opportunities being offered to iflix, I am extremely excited to join the team full-time and help iflix continue build on its incredible success to date,” said Goldstein on his appointment.

Previously, Goldstein served as Special Advisor to the CEO of Axiata, one of Asia’s largest telco companies.

He has over 20 years of experience in the media, pay TV, telco and IT industries, with past senior executive positions in Emtek Group, SCTV, Nexmedia, Telstra, Swisscom, DiGi, New World Mobility, TIW, Schlumberger and Khazanah Nasional.

iflix also took the opportunity to announce its new partnership with Indosat Ooredoo, after previously announcing partnership with state-owned Telkom Indonesia.

Select Indosat Ooredoo premium mobile and fiber broadband (GIG) customers will receive iflix services, bundled with their existing subscriptions. To activate the service, eligible subscribers have to register at iflix website or download the iflix app on their devices.

Meanwhile, global streaming platform Netflix took a different approach compared to its Southeast Asian competitor.

Still fresh in memory is the moment when Telkom Indonesia blocked total access to Netflix on all of its platforms, citing ‘pornographic/violent content’ and ‘lack of operating license’.

While a Netflix spokesperson had previously told e27 that the company is “keen to find partnerships and to maintain good relationships with the authorities”, in an interview with CNBC, CEO Reed Hastings hinted otherwise.

“We hope the issue dissipates over time. Customers want the freedom to choose if they want to join … Everywhere else in Asia there is no blocking, just the single ISP in Indonesia,” he said.
