Echelon Thailand 2017

At the C Asean Cyber World Tower in Bangkok yesterday, a varied mix of startups, investors, corporates and sponsors came together to show why Thailand is fast becoming Southeast Asia’s hottest startup darling.

For over eight hours, important stakeholders such as the National Innovation Agency (NIA)’s director Dr Pun-Arj Chairatana and SG Innovate’s Head of Economic Development Alex Lin addressed an audience of hundreds, painting a rosy picture of a strong and forward-looking Thailand tech industry.

Elsewhere, attendees at the Startup Academy, sponsored by TechStars, enriched themselves with fundamental business lessons such as fundraising, social media, and hiring best practices. And at the VentureCon track, powered by GoodShift Ventures, investors discussed strategies to grow and optimise their funds.

The day concluded with an InVent Ventures-backed networking drinks. A live band provided a soothing respite from hours of business talk with cover versions of classic jazz tunes such as Fly Me To the Moon and I Feel Wonderful Tonight.

Karndee Leopairote, Managing Director at C asean, played the perfect counterpart; she held her own, exchanging playful jibes with Lin with relative ease. The chemistry palatable.

The VentureCon track provided a more intimate and cosy environment for investors to mingle and exchange ideas.

Investors discussing strategies to make investments that can not only make a positive impact on society but also reap good returns on them.

The Startup Academy provided business 101 lessons such as learning preparing a term sheet, leveraging social media effectively, learning how to fundraise and hire properly, and many more.

Echelon Thailand 2017 was held at the 10th floor of the C Asean Cyber World Tower, against the backdrop of Bangkok’s beautiful city skyline.

At sundown, free beer was served, courtesy of InVent Ventures. No one became intoxicated though, thankfully. Everybody had a great time.

Attendees, with their tongues looser after a pint or two, became more animated and lively as the night wore on.

This three-piece band, Tigger3, performed excellent cover versions of jazz and lounge tunes. LENSOD, a startup that provides live band booking service, provided the band.
