Three Asian companies make it to the list of investments announced during the Intel Capital Global Summit

Intel Corporation’s global investment and M&A organisation Intel Capital, today announced new investments of more than US$22 million in 10 startups from five countries.

The announcement was made during the annual Intel Capital Global Summit in San Diego, the venture capital industry’s premier networking event that hosts more than 1,000 founders, CEOs, innovators and change-makers for two days of company building, networking, learning and inspiration.

“With today’s announcement, we’re on track to invest more than US$500 million in startups in 2015,” said Wendell Brooks, VP of Intel and incoming President of Intel Capital.

“Together with another robust group of exits, we’re poised for one of the organisation’s strongest years ever,” he added.

Of the 10 startups that received investments, three — Microprogram Information (Taiwan), Perfant Technology (China), and Sckipio (Israel) — are from Asia.

Microprogram Information is a Taichung-based IoT solutions and service provider that provides turnkey hardware and software solutions and backend information management services for bicycle rentals, taxi fleets, mobile POS systems and others.

Perfant Technology is a Beijing-based company that develops imaging and video technology for artificial intelligence, machine vision, 3-D reconstruction and virtual reality.

Meanwhile, Sckio is a Ramat Gan-based company that was the first to announce and ship a commercial G.fast chipset for DSL modems.

Other recipients are FreedomPop (US), a provider of nationwide free high-speed Internet and mobile phone services; LISNR (US), creator of new communication protocol Smart Tones and What3words (UK), an addressing platform that allows people to find and share a location more accurately.

Intel Capital is also investing in Body Labs (US), which aims to transform the human body into a digital platform upon and around which goods and services can be designed, produced, bought and sold by collecting, and wireless charging network Chargifi (UK).

KMLabs (US), a manufacturer of compact, high-performance, ultrafast advanced laser systems for research and industrial applications and Prieto Battery (US), an advanced battery provider focussed on commercialising a patented Lithium-ion battery technology.

The event also awarded the first Intel Capital Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Kevin Reid and Rodney Rogers, Co-founders of Virtustream. The award recognised their achievement of making a US$1.2 billion exit less than six years after the company was built.
