#Asia Lionrock Capital, Kris Gopalakrishnan invest in edtech startup Avagmah

Avagmah offers various services to universities that include marketing, student counselling, virtual classroom, student engagement and retention

Avagmah, a Bangalore-based edtech startup focussed on higher education, has received an undisclosed amount in investments from Kris Gopalakrishnan, Co-founder and former CEO & MD of Infosys, and Atul Nishar, Founder of Hexaware and Aptech Computer Education.

Existing investors including Lionrock Capital (Singapore); Ganesh Krishnan, Founder and former CEO of TutorVista; and Neeraj Bhargava, Founder and CEO of Zodius Capital, also participated in the round.

Avagmah will use the latest investment for technology enhancement and to acquire new Indian university clients.

The company has raised over US$5 million over the last 18 months.

“The current brick-and-mortar higher education system is facing major challenges of excellence and access, with only 24 million students enrolled out of the potential 120 million. Universities and top tier institutions have to adopt technology to provide access to quality education to millions of working professionals and students in urban and remote India, which would then address the demand-supply gap of skilled talent. I see great potential in startups like Avagmah which can bring in positive disruption in our education system through technology,” said Gopalakrishnan.

Founded in 2013 by Karthik KS, an NIT Kurukshetra alumnus, Avagmah enables universities and distance education providers make higher education more inclusive by helping them reach out to a broader audience. The Avagmah Technology Platform (ATP) is an amalgamation of cloud-based software-as-a-service technology and managed services solutions that enables universities increase reach and appeal of their programmes. Through this, Avagmah offers a complete bouquet of services that include marketing, student counselling, virtual classroom, student engagement and retention.

Using the platform, universities can help busy working professionals and remote students study for a degree programme on the go and connect with their faculty for lectures and doubt clearing even when travelling in the bus to work.
