While a report from Digital News Asia this evening says top executives at Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) are close to appointing Ashran Ghazi to become the organisation’s next CEO, the decision is still unconfirmed.

“As far as MaGIC knows, the decision is not confirmed. We are also awaiting news of confirmation,” the company told e27 in an email.

That was as much as MaGIC was able to share at the moment.

The position of MaGIC CEO is one of the most closely watched vacancies in the Southeast Asia startup world thanks to the departure of the popular Cheryl Yeoh from the position in January.

According the the Digital News Asia report, Ghazi may very well be appointed CEO during a ratification meeting tomorrow, but MaGIC was unable to provide details.

Ashran Ghazi has a background in the startup world as the Founder of Joot Ventures Sdn Bhd and the creator of AsiaTube.tv.

MaGIC is an agency under the Malaysian Ministry of Finance and was launched with much fanfare on April 2014 by US President Barack Obama and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.
