Cheryl Yeoh Final

Cheryl Yeoh, CEO of the Malaysian government agency dedicated to entrepreneurship, will be leaving her post as first reported by Digital News Asia.

While her contract officially ends beginning of January, Yeoh’s final working day at MaGIC will be within the month of December.

What do Yeoh’s next steps look like? She said in a statement:

“I will be taking a three to six-month break to recharge, travel and focus on personal growth as well as spend time with close friends and family. I might consider some advisory or consulting role on my ‘sabbatical’ as I’ve had a lot of requests to ‘pick my brains.’”

Before she returned to Malaysia to join MaGIC, Yeoh worked in New York City as a management consultant. She then built a couple startups: digital wallet CityPockets and personalised shopping list app Reclip. It (built in Silicon Valley) which was acquired by WalMart Labs.

According to the report, the Malaysian Government has enlisted the help of head hunters to find her replacement although sources say that two shortlisted candidates from the initial batch will be considered.

Despite being in the post for almost two years, Yeoh will not be pitching in for the selection process.

“While I will not be involved in the selection process of the new CEO, I believe that the chairman and board of directors of MaGIC will choose the best person for the job – someone who will continue to lead the amazing team I have built, who will hopefully continue all the great programmes and initiatives that we’ve started here at MaGIC and provide the vision for a future road map that will truly benefit the entrepreneurs and the country.”

We have reached out to Cheryl for an interview, will be running a story when we hear back.
