Have you heard of Gross National Happiness (GNH)?

It was a tiny Asian country that coined the term GNH. Bhutan, an idyllic beauty and place for monasteries, introduced GNH in 2012 as a new approach to development, which measures prosperity through the spiritual, physical, social and environmental health of its citizens and natural environment. A few months later, United Nations endorsed GNH and a panel considered ways to replicate this model across the globe.

It seems that GNH has now caught the imagination of corporates and startups as well. Like never before, organisations across the world are now giving utmost importance to the wellbeing of their employees and providing them various facilities to make them happy. This way, the have been able to reduce the attrition rate as well.

Gurgaon-based BigFoot Retail Solutions (BFRS) is one such company that has taken all possible efforts to achieve GNH at the company level. It has even appointed a Chief Happiness Officer to take care of GNH.

Bruno, the Chief Happiness Officer, is not someone who has constituted a team under his watch to take care of the well-being of the employees. Instead, this hyperactive adorable pooch runs around the office, hunting for love, and spreads happiness and drool throughout the workspace.

Bruno is a breeze of joy for all employees.

Bruno has grown up with the company and takes delight in helping the employees unwind. He sets camp near his ‘human-of-the-day’ and continues to seek undivided attention. His job profile involves regular cuddling, unrestricted drooling, the general fetching, and puppy-eying for food.

BFRS believes that it is imperative to create an employee-friendly environment, and it has done just that. In the last two years, the employee count has gone from 40 to 200.

It has become habitual to celebrate everything together, be it rejoicing about a festival in general, or live-streaming a cricket match at the workplace.

Apart from the seasonal celebrations and the regular outings, the employees can de-stress with multiple indoor activities such as playing pool, mini golf, chess, etc. They also have quarterly sessions to acknowledge the efforts of employees and departments. BFRS doesn’t believe in all work and no play, and integrating fun into the workspace is given much importance.

BFRS runs three businesses: KartRocket, Kraftly and ShipRocket.

KartRocket is a complete e-commerce solution. It is a software platform that empowers SMEs, small retailers and entrepreneurs to start their own online business. KartRocket’s DIY e-commerce solution enables them to create an online store, design and customise it in less than 10 minutes.

Kraftly is a C2C e-commerce platform.

ShipRocket is an e-commerce logistics aggregation platform designed to cater to all kinds of shipping requirements for sellers/merchants in India. The product aims to create a shipping experience like no other. Whether the retailer is shipping a single product or shipping orders in bulk, be it within the country or globally, ShipRocket offers an end-to-end logistics management system to its customers.

The company claims that Kraftly has nearly 47,000 sellers on its platform, while KartRocket has 2,500.

To date, BFRS has raised US$9 million from the likes of Bertelsmann India.
