Mobile FINAL

Chinese American Jim Xie has 16 years’ experience in developing and designing software and applications in American technology companies. He has worked as a senior software engineer at Verizon Wireless and General Motors, but he chose to return to China to found a startup.

In 2014, Xie founded Amazonite Technologies in Nanjing and later moved his team to China’s ‘Silicon Valley’, Beijing’s Zhongguancun hi-tech hub.

The company aims to convert PC websites/web applications into mobile versions/apps without design changes, programming changes, and testing.

“Without programming, we can provide firms a simple solution to mobilizing their business at a low cost,” Xie told AllChinaTech.

Why the return to China?

The wild popularity of smartphones in China for use in making purchases, paying bills, reading and doing everything that can be done via internet makes China the perfect place for Xie’s startup to flourish.

“The reason I founded my business in China is because our technology has a vast market in China compared to America,” Xie said.

According to the 37th semi-annual report released by the China National Network Information Centre, Chinese mobile web users reached 620 million in 2015, covering 90.1% of the total population of Chinese web users.

Xie added that the Chinese government has created a favorable environment for entrepreneurs. “In America, the cost of running a startup is too high for me,” he said. “It is also easy for us to recruit skilled employees at a low cost, because top Chinese universities including Tsinghua, Peking University and Renmin University are all located in Zhongguancun.”

Unique technology

Currently, most firms convert their PC websites/web applications into mobile versions/apps by rewriting programming code. This requires high costs and a lengthy development period. Moreover, it’s highly demanding for programmers to change the code.

“With our PC Web to Mobile Adapter technology, customers will be able to enjoy an upgraded website user experience as they receive the benefits of a mobile version website while visiting the same URL as a firm’s PC version,” Xie said.

Having the same URL for the PC version and mobile version of a website is different than their competitors. This combines the view statistics of both sites, thus bumping up a company’s website ranking, which in turn gains more exposure on search engines.

The company requires the original website to incorporate a line of code to install their mobile adapter engine. Whenever a mobile device attempts to access the PC webpage, the mobile adapter engine is automatically called and opens the mobile version of the page. However, when a PC attempts to access the same website, the mobile adapter engine will not be called and it will automatically open the existing PC version.

“Our technology does not use any server side resource, nor does it change or alter the original site/web application in any way,” Xie said.

“We have developed the first and second version of the PC web application, and the third version will be promoted to the market in three to four months,” Xie said. “In the near future, we want to build a SaaS platform and make our technology accessible to everyone around the world.”

Xie said that they are in the process of finding investment. He believes that the fact that they have helped big websites like the Overseas Chinese Students Pioneer Park, Chinese Overseas-educated Scholars Association and China Machinery Industry Federation mobilize their businesses will help them to reach that goal.
