Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group today further strengthen its presence in local e-commerce scene by hosting a soft launching event for Mbiz, a B2B and B2G e-commerce platform, in South Jakarta. The new platform follows the company’s launch of B2C e-commerce platform MatahariMall in September 2015.

The platform aims to provide integrated, web-based e-procurement solution for corporations and government institutions. It provides product catalogues from various vendors and industries, ranging from IT products, stationeries, industrial equipment, and groceries, among the few.

It is currently in beta mode and already accessible for the public since February 2016.

“Since the third quarter of 2015, Mbiz has provided services for Lippo’s business units. With this initiative, Lippo takes part in building a digital ecosystem where our partners not only sell to retail consumers but also to corporations and government institutions,” said Adrian Suherman, CEO of Lippo Digital Group, who also sits on commissionary board Mbiz and MatahariMall.

Mbiz is led by co-founders Ryn Hermawan and Andrew Mawikere. Hermawan had previous experience in logistics and digital industries from his time at DHL Express Indonesia and Fedex. Mawikere had experiences in offline sector and financial industry from his time in JP Morgan.

The number of initial investment by Lippo Group is undisclosed, and the company is currently run by a team of less than 100 staffs.

As demonstrated during the launch, shopping in Mbiz platform is very much like shopping in B2C platform. Users can search for products, purchase in bulks, and there is even promo codes for discounts. The difference is that the system allows approval process for supervisors via email.

For 2016, the company will focus on developing categories and subcategories in its platform as well as developing its system. It currently has 12 main categories in its beta version.

Hermawan also stated that Mbiz will also look into a better understanding of the market, and to digitise all stages in procurement process such as developing digital contract drafting system.

Mbiz is also on the process of applying as vendor for the Indonesian government’s e-catalogue project for government institutions.

To market its platform, Mbiz relies on offline efforts such as exhibition and direct sales.

When asked about competition with companies such as Bizzy, Mawikere stated that Mbiz does not consider them as competitors, especially since the product line is also different (with Mbiz also facilitating e-procurement).
