Go-Jek CEO went on a secretive meeting with Jakarta Transportation Agency; agency head spilled some beans
In a surprising new twist, following the recent call for the ban of ride-hailing apps by Minister of Transportation, Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency Andri Yansyah announced on Wednesday that he had met with representatives from Go-Jek, including CEO Nadiem Makarim, to discuss the possibility for the company to set up a new business vertical: Taxi-hailing app.
He even stated that the new service might be called Go-Car, according to a report by several media.
“They asked me about the process to set up Go-Car. They said they want to work with official taxi provider. I said, go ahead. We will facilitate later,” he said.
Yansyah also stated that there will be no restriction to the new business as the provincial government does not have any quota for the number of public transportation provider in Jakarta.
He also stressed on the importance for businesses to follow government regulations on public transportation.
Go-Jek spokesperson neither deny nor confirm the report, as reported by Detik.
“We notice an increasing demand from the public for tech-based transportation solution. In order to answer it, we have been discussing with several parties,” according to the statement.
“Regarding Go-Jek’s new service, we are unable to give any information at the moment. We can only assure you that we will continue on developing our service to fulfill’s the public’s increasing demand for a tech solution to make their life easier,” it added.
