Pakistan, meet Sparklist — a new mobile app dedicated to buying and selling second-hand goods

Sparklist

Venture builder Rocket Internet has today announced the launch of Sparklist, a Pakistan-first mobile app for second-hand goods.

The app relies heavily on images, with sellers posting photographs of the goods for sale and buyers judging the products based on the photographs. Buyers and sellers can then communicate (read: bargain) via Sparklist’s in-app chat system.

“In our mobile app, users can constantly make new connections, find new bargains and truly harness the immense but hidden socio-economic potential of their own respective communities,” said Nalla Karunanithy, Global Managing Director, Sparklist.

There are plans to release Sparklist in other emerging markets, although it is unclear where the next stop for the company will be. However, Karunanithy is confident that starting in Pakistan is a good choice.

In an official statement, he explained, “Only 4.5 per cent of the population in Pakistan uses smartphones, which alone represents a massive market of [nine] million users; as the adoption of smart technology rapidly grows, Pakistan’s market will become increasingly more competitive and first movers will have a distinct competitive advantage.”

The app is only available on the Google Play Store for now.
