It will expand to Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Philippines
Rocket Internet-powered budget hotel booking platform ZEN Rooms has announced its expansion to four key markets in Asia: Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
The Singapore-based startup first launched its service in Indonesia in 2015, travellers can book cheap hotel rooms starting from US$10 in popular tourist destinations such as Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, Bogor and Yogyakarta.
ZEN Rooms claims it vets each room carefully, ensuring that they are clean and are equipped with the following amenities: Free WIFI, comfortable double beds, air-conditioner and an in-room shower.

In Thailand, it would offer double ensuite rooms starting at 480 THB (US$13) per night, while in Sri Lanka, it would offer rooms priced from US$21 in Colombo, Kandy and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia.
In the Philippines, ZEN Rooms would set up shop in the capital city Manila, with prices starting at US$30.
Naturally, Singapore would be the costliest destination; rooms will start at US$56 per night in Little India, East Coast and the Central Business District.
Last year, it was reported that ZEN Rooms aims to provide as many as 4,000 hotel rooms in these markets.
Its business model follows India-based budget hotel booking platform OYO, which has raised US$125.6M so far, and acquired its competitor Zo Rooms in February this year.
With OYO’s expansion into Malaysia this year, and 500 Startups backing Singapore-based RedDoorz, competition for budget hotel bookings in the region is set to heat up.
