#Asia Sexy no more: Indonesian online lingerie store Lolalola shuts down

While the startup will cease operations as per January 4, customers will still be able to continue shopping on Lolalola’s social media platform

The Indonesian fashion e-commerce scene opened up the new year with a shocking news. Lolalola, which focussed on selling lingerie products, officially shut down its store starting today, DailySocial has reported.

When accessing the startup’s official site, users will be able to discover a statement by the company which simply said “Thank you for shopping at www.lolalo.la. We will cease the operation of www.lolalo.la as per January 4, 2017.”

Lolalola also stated that incoming orders will be process “normally”, and that users can continue shopping on the startup’s official social media platform.

There is no words yet from the startup on why they decided to close down their service, though it is likely to be related to the increasingly tight competition between fashion e-commerce startups in the country. Last year, Berrybenka and SaleStock laid off its employees in order to save business, while Pink Emma temporarily shuts down service before finally returning on September 2016.

Led by CEO Donna Lesmana, Lolalola was officially launched in March 2015 though it has begun operating since August 2014. Claiming to have been inspired by global lingerie brands such as Agent Provocateur and Victoria’s Secret, the startup aimed to “change the way Indonesian customers shop for lingerie” by providing an array of lingerie products from local and international brands.

Lolalola is backed by Ardent Capital and received logistics supports from aCommerce. The startup was reported to have tested its service for Thai market, and claimed to have sold out within two weeks.
