A publicity stunt by Telkomsel take users on a trip across world’s largest archipelago, livestreamed through the Internet
State-owned mobile operator company Telkomsel today launched an initiative called Ekspedisi Langit Nusantara (Nusantara Sky Expedition, or Elang Nusa) to promote its nation-wide broadband network.
The programme took two drones — named Elang Timur (‘East Eagle’) and Elang Barat (‘West Eagle’) — flying on a route across the Indonesian archipelago.
Elang Barat departed from the country’s westernmost point Sabang in Sumatra, while Elang Timur departed from Indonesia’s easternmost point Merauke in Papua.
The two drones will finally meet on May 14 in its final landing spot in Bali, in the center of the archipelago.
During the flight, the drones will record scenery from its journey that will be livestreamed through the programme’s official website between 10AM to 3PM (GMT +7). Audience can choose to see views from cameras strapped on either Elang Timur or Elang Barat.
The drones will take on a journey of 8,500 kilometer in total, stopping at several Indonesian cities for pit-stop events along the way.

The livestream is available not only for Telkomsel users, but also for international audience using any provider.
When e27 accessed the website, Elang Barat was displaying scenery of an open landscape with trees and a river, most likely in the province of Aceh.
“To prove [the quality of] Telkomsel broadband network, we do more than just putting up billboards along the street claiming that we have the widest reach, we actually prove it,” said Telkomsel Managing Director Ririek Adriansyah as quoted by Kompas Tekno.
