The founders of hiring platform UrbanHire – Hengki Sihombing, Benson Kawengian, and Jepri Sinaga– met last year at a hackathon event in Jakarta, and found out that they shared the same vision on how software can solve the ‘finding talent’ problem faced by many entrepreneurs.

“Recruitment is a strategic issue and when done right it can be a significant competitive advantage. We inject the values we uphold most, like technological excellence, collaboration and people empowerment to design a recruiting software that just works in the new economy,” explained CEO Benson Kaweningan.

Launched on Monday, UrbanHire enables companies of all sizes to create a careers page in minutes, post to multiple job boards, review applicants and schedule interviews on just one platform.

Using the cloud-based solution, hiring managers can set up a company page to promote its work culture, spread job vacancy ads to various platforms, gets candidates to submit their resume to the platforms, and do a peer review of the candidates’ profile.

The peer review system allows hiring managers to ‘tag’ related managers to review the candidates. They can comment on the candidates’ profiles and send notification emails to them to arrange for interviews.

The Jakarta-based startup has raised an undisclosed seed funding from RMKB Ventures, Marissa Soeryadjaya (of Indonesian conglomerate Soeryadjaya family), Megain Widjaya (of Sinar Mas Group family), and Farrel Sutantio (of Cimory Group).

UrbanHire is currently staffed by a team of 10.

Millenials are no longer attracted to boring job ads posted on newspapers, but this is not the only concern employers have about hiring.

Kawengian explained in an e-mail to e27 that most SMEs, even large enterprises in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, do not have hiring software to help them with applicant tracking and multi-users collaboration.

This led to an inefficient process involving endless spreadsheets, back and forth emails, even junior staff handling early stage selection.

Companies ended up making wrong hiring decisions.

“To get and maintain a talented workforce, companies will have no choice but to be excruciatingly efficient in their hiring,” said Kawengian.

The platform also gives opportunities for companies to proactively brand themselves.

“Most SMBs do not have the resources to develop an exhaustive website. With our platform they can easily create a visual career page in minutes, and even embed the jobs to their own company website. This allows companies to inspire and make their culture visible,” explained Kawengian.

The company set up a sales and support team in Jakarta, with an aim to market their product to both SMEs and large enterprises in Southeast Asia. It also plans to engage with recruitment communities.

UrbanHire has secured partnerships with global companies such as Indeed, Trovit and CareerJet to provide free job vacancy advertising for their users. It also plans to offer free and paid advertising options in nine different local and international job portals.

For 2016, UrbanHire wants to focus on strengthening user acquisition.

“Our big agenda for 2016 is to get hundreds SMBs and enterprises to benefit from our product by giving them the best customer service … We will also increase our presence in various recruitment communities,” said Kawengian.
