E-publishing platform Bahati Books has been named winner of the second Africa Tech Pitch LDN event, which aims to showcase Africa-oriented UK-based startups.

Disrupt Africa reported recently the second edition of the Africa Tech Pitch LDN event was set to take place in London, with five Africa-focused startups to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, as well as an audience of entrepreneurs, investors, technologists and media.

The event is a pitching evening aimed at showcasing high-potential, high-impact startups addressing a real need in the African market; and hopes to connect these startups with the networks and feedback to grow their companies.

Female-founded Bahati Books, an e-publishing platform for undiscovered African writing talent, was named winner of the event.

“We are ecstatic to have won the competition and chosen as the strongest startup concept – it’s such a positive affirmation for us. We also had a lot of food for thought based on the panellist’s feedback – and this is all part of our growth journey,” said Barbara Njau, co-founder of Bahati Books.

The recurring event is hosted by the African Technology Business Network (ATBN) – which also runs a startup support programme, i4DAfrica. The network aims to provide a global platform for Africa-focused startups based in the UK.

“We set up i4DAfrica to support Africa-focused startups in the UK because we believe they present a unique opportunity. They have the ability to leverage the vast resources available to them in the UK startup ecosystem to develop solutions that positively impact Africa. Ultimately we want to be a bridge that enables exchange and collaboration between the UK and Africa tech ecosystems,” said Eunice Baguma Ball, founder of ATBN.
