In a rather surprising twist, following the launch of their car-hailing service Go-Car, today Indonesian ride-hailing app Go-Jek announced that they are about to launch a new partnership with the country’s leading transportation company Blue Bird.
“As market leaders in their respective industries, Blue Bird and Go-Jek aim to create transformational innovations to their combined customer base. Both parties believe that each of their strengths are highly complementary and can further solidify their market leadership,” as written in an official press statement by the two companies.
It also stated that both Go-Jek and Blue Bird believe that “this collaboration would accelerate Indonesia’s digital revolution and empower its consumers.”
No further details were mentioned on the partnership yet, but the statement said it will stretch across technology, payment, and promotion aspects.

The news came after in March, taxi drivers from various taxi companies (including Blue Bird) in Jakarta went on a strike and protested against ride-hailing app industry, which is often perceived as a threat to traditional transportation industry such as taxi.
The protest took a violent turn when protesters began attacking cars and motorbikes using ride-hailing app and fellow taxi drivers who did not take part in the protest.
Soon after the protest, Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency Andri Yansyah announced that the agency had gone on a meeting with Go-Jek CEO Nadiem Makarim to discuss the possibility of the company launching a taxi-hailing service.
