BandLab, a Singaporean company that allows musicians to collaborate with one another over the cloud, has announced today it has acquired a San Francisco-based design studio named MONO Creators Inc.

MONO creates instrument cases, straps and accessories for gigging musicians.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The goal behind the acquisition is for BandLab to become a more nimble company by diversifying its offering for the mobile music market.

The next step is BandLab and MONO plan to integrate a product and marketing strategy for the 2017 NAMM Show scheduled for January 19-22 in Anaheim, CA.

“We know the MONO business well as we’ve already been working with MONO for four years, through Swee Lee Music, our Asian Retail / Distribution business. I am very excited to be able to take MONO to the next level around the world as part of BandLab,” said Meng Ru Kuok the Co-founder and CEO of BandLab in an official statement.

BandLab is a free cloud-based platform that works by letting people share recordings, collaborate via a messaging platform and includes a large library of pre-made loops. Furthermore, all changes are tracked via Tree View because, as every musician knows, sometimes version 2.0 is better than version 5.0.

As for MONO, the design company has won an Industrial Designers Society of America award and has quite the who’s who client list, including legends like The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Mastodon and Black Sabbath.

“Being a successful musician today requires a completely different tool kit, and we share a vision for what those tools need to be, and now BandLab and MONO have the ability to create them together,” said Daniel Kushner, Founder and Design Director at MONO, in a statement.
