Indonesian human resources management and payroll platform Gadjian today announced it raised an undisclosed amount of funding. The round was led by Golden Gate Ventures, with participation from Maloekoe Ventures.

Gadjian – which translates to payroll in Indonesian – is a Software as a Service (SaaS) application that helps companies keep track of their employees’ pay and income tax deductions as well as attendance. The service was launched by husband and wife team Else Fernanda and Afia Fitriani in May.

Before building Gadjian, Else and Afia had already created another HR management app called HRD helper. They managed to find a diverse range of clients, including a fish packaging factory, an environmental non-profit, and an office space management firm.

Around mid 2015, Else and Afia started developing Gadjian using their own funds. “We targeted companies with a small number of employees, with a focus on small and medium businesses,” Alfia, Gadjian’s CEO, tells Tech in Asia.

Gadjian now has 300-plus employees and more than a dozen paying clients in Indonesian metro areas such as Jakarta, Bandung and Jogjakarta. Some prominent clients include startups Hijup and DiskonAja, along with several government agencies and property realtors.

With the fresh funds, Gadjian plans to expand the team and brand through marketing. The startup competes with similar local apps such as Talenta and Sleekr.
