China-based home service robot startup ROOBO has raised US$100 million in a round led by Shenzhen-listed Chinese software firm iFlyTek Co; other undisclosed investors also participated in the round.
The two companies also entered into a strategic partnership that will see the two-year old startup integrate iFlyTek’s intelligent speech and language recognition technology into its robots.
ROOBO recently won the Red Dot Award 2016 for its robot dog Dogmy. Beyond its function as a pet companion, Dogmy’s IoT functions allows it to switch on smart lights, heaters and TV; provide real-time weather and traffic information; take photos and share them on social media; and perform dance routines.
Its other products include Pudding, an educational robot that teaches geography, vocabulary, and tells jokes to children.
ROOBO also manufactures an intelligent drone, a VR headset and a smart bone conduction headphones.
ROOBO’s team boosts 300 employees spread over 7 offices worldwide.
