Problems continue to dog Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 barely a month after it started recalling the phones. First, there were reports of replacement Galaxy Note 7 phones overheating and batteries losing power rapidly.

Now, a replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has caught fire on an America-based airline, according to a report by The Verge.

The owner of the Note 7, Brian Green had switched off the phone when he boarded the Southwest Airlines flight 994 at the Louisville International Airport.

When he put the phone in his pocket, it began releasing smoke. He then dropped it the floor and saw a “thick grey-green angry smoke” emitting from the phone.

A colleague of Green observed that the intense heat from the phone managed to burn through the plane’s carpet right down to the subfloor.

Green said that his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 had 80 per cent battery power at the time of the incident. He added that he only used a wireless charger to charge the phone.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said it will begin investigations into incident promptly.

Samsung released a statement to The Verge that said:

“Until we are able to retrieve the device, we cannot confirm that this incident involves the new Note7. We are working with the authorities and Southwest now to recover the device and confirm the cause. Once we have examined the device we will have more information to share.”

Green has since purchased an iPhone 7 as a replacement.
