#Africa African startups invited to apply for 7th Global Entrepreneurship Summit

//

African startups have been invited to apply for the seventh edition of President Barack Obama’s Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), which will take place in the United States (US) in July.

Last year’s GES was held for the first time in Sub-Saharan Africa in Nairobi, Kenya, with Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta and Obama jointly hosting the event.

The summit was previously hosted by the US, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia and Morocco, and now returns to the US in a move the organisers say highlights Obama’s commitment to building bridges to tackle global challenges together.

GES 2016 aims to showcase inspiring entrepreneurs and investors from around the world, creating new opportunities for investment, partnership, and collaboration.

It looks to connect American entrepreneurs and investors with international counterparts to form lasting relationships, and highlight entrepreneurship as a means of addressing intractable global challenges. The organisers say hosting GES in Silicon Valley will highlight America’s entrepreneurial spirit and allow American investors and entrepreneurs to see the talent, solutions and opportunities that exist globally.

Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a range of workshops, panels, ignite talks, pitch competitions, mentoring, and networking sessions, aimed at giving participants tailored opportunities to gain skills and relationships to help their ventures grow. Those interested in applying can do so on the GES 2016 website.
